Goodbye Shawn

Today it has been reported that Shawn Green has retired. I, for one, am very sad to hear this news as I was hoping there was some way possible that he would come back to the Mets. I know he was only willing to make a deal with a team on the west coast, bit I was still hoping.

In my opinion he represented this generation of Jewish players and he never failed to play with class. He always played as hard as he could and there was no underestimating his value as a teammate and all around good-guy. I am sorry I did not get to enjoy him for a longer amount of time. I really found out about him when he was acquired by the Mets in 2006.

Good luck Shawn

"A lot of the job is being a rah-rah guy," Shawn Green told the Times. "We all know how to hit or else we wouldn't be here. Sometimes all we want is to be held and told that everything's going to be all right."

What Shawn eats for breakfast!

Weird

I had a very strange dream that Livan Hernandez had signed with the Mets and everybody thought he was the biggest thing since sliced bread. I had been told to go to the Mets clubhouse and follow him around wherever he went and then I saw a sheet of paper that had him as the #1 starter before Johan Santana. Then I felt like I had to fix my blog because I said he was with the Twins and I wanted to think of something clever to make the title of the post but I couldn't think fo anything. Just as I was going to start to type I woke up.

I just thought this was odd and I wonder if it means anything to come.

Let's Go Mets!

I'm Baaaaack!

I came back from Florida last night and I had so much fun there. I went to both Mets and Yankees spring training as well as Disney World.

At Yankees spring training I only got Chris Woodward's autograph but at the Mets I got so many more!

The first one I got was Endy Chavez and he was really nice by signing for a very long time. Joe Smith was also very nice and he signed a TON of stuff (including my baseball!) I think Juan Padilla was the nicest because he signed for like everybody who wanted one. Among others I got were Ben Johnson, he signed mine right away even though I was behind a bunch of people because I was the only person that knew his name, Brian Schneider, Jose Valentin, Damion Easley, Nelson Figueroa, and Guy Conti along with a few other that I either cannot remember or their autograph is too hard to figure out. Sadly I did not get David or Mike Pelfrey to sign my baseball.

The best story is from when I got HOTTIE minor league catcher Mike Nickeas to sign my baseball.

I was basically just trying to get whoever was out there and so I went up to who turned out to be Mike Nickeas. I got his autograph so quickly it was amazing. I go and squeeze between a bunch of people and he sees me right away and smiles and asks me "'sup?" I just smile because I am not really sure of what else I should do. At that point I still don't know who he is but I know he is now my favorite player. Luckily he signed with his number so I can check the roster to see who he is. I officially LOVE MIKE NICKEAS!
I am officially allowed to have my Lilly Truscott (Hannah Montana) moment:
HE ASKED ME 'SUP!
moment over

I will post some pictures that are from MY camera later.

Music

I am really bored and I think I will start periodically posting music that I like listening to.

For now:
It Won't Be Soon Before Long (whole CD)-Maroon 5
Into The Night-Santana/Chad Kroeger
Who We Are-Lifehouse (really great band and is VERY good live/acoustic)

and I just started listening to a song that I have not heard since I think I might have been 4

Truly, Madly, Deeply-Savage Garden

What are you listening to now?

Spring Is In The Air!

This offseason has been the longest that I can ever remember and I am beyond glad that it is over. Baseball is back! I am just so HAPPY! Next week I am going to Florida during my school break. I am planning on going to spring training with my family and I cannot wait! Tonight on SNY @ 6 there will be an interview with the one and only Mike Pelfrey! I love him so much and feel like one of his only loyal fans! There isn't really much to report yet. Everybody is basically reporting and having their physicals.
I am just so happy baseball is back!

There Goes All of My Livan Hernandez Puns

Today Livan Hernandez signed with the Twins. I find this sad because I was looking forward to seeing him pitch with El Duque. I know that once the Mets got Johan Santana they were not going to pursue Livan but I still dreamed. I like when brothers get to play together.

Well that is about it.

I Always Knew It!

There is a great article from the New York times about David Wright. I always enjoy reading more about my DAVID! They call him the real Mr. Met and I feel like I have been calling him that forever. He has always been one of my favorite players and by far the HOTTEST player ever! In the article they talk about how nice David is to new players and how he has taken a bigger role as a leader on the team.

My favorite part...
In the newspaper they have a picture of David in the duggout next to Shawn Green.
THE HOTTNESS!

I'm Boooooooored!

Nothing really is going on so I am very very very bored! I really don't feel like talking about the Pedro Martinez incident. I really just cannot wait for baseball to start again. There is just a few more days until pitchers and catchers have to go down to Florida and my school break is in a week. During that week I, as well, will be in Florida. That is what I am looking forward to. I was sick of football season before it started and am not really that into basketball. Besides, if I was into basketball I would be very said because the Knicks are playing like a bunch of first graders. This has been the longest and by far the hardest off-season to get through. The Mets really have to prove themselves this year. Johan has come and there is very high expectations for him and the whole team. I just cannot wait until baseball is back.

Well I guess I will go watch more Hannah Montana.

Until then

He's Coming He's Coming He's Coming... He's Here!

Today the Mets held a formal press conference to introduce the latest and possibly the coolest (besides David Wright, Mike Pelfrey, and Joe Smith of course) Met! I did not get see it live because I, sadly, was at school. I did watch it online at mets.com

I was obviously VERY happy when I saw that David was there. He always makes me enjoy my day. I am also very pleased that Johan was very good with his first chance with the New York media. He did well when he was asked the same question over and over and over and over and over and over (I think you get the point) again.

"What do you think of playing in New York?"
"Are you looking forward to playing for the Mets?"
"What are your thoughts on being with the Mets and playing in New York?"

I never really noticed how much reporters influence the recurring answers of athletes. I have a Baseball Bloopers DVD and it has a segment about the "quotes" from post/pre-game interviews.

"It is a long season."
"We are going one game at a time."
"It is not a spring it is a marathon."

The press are the real people causing this. They refuse to ask different questions. (The woman at the Indians caravan had better questions when she asked my Grady if he would go to a dance with her daughter).

Overall, it was really nice to see Johan in the Mets pinstripes. I am looking forward to seeing him pitch his hear out for the Mets this season.

Signed Sealed Delivered... He's Ours!

Omar has finally delivered the package we have all been waiting for. The Twins waited so long that they probably did not get as good a package as they could have gotten from the Red Sox or Yankees. For Mets fans this is exactly what we needed. The fans needed to be reassured that there is somebody that can lead the pitchers and we got the best pitcher in baseball. The Mets also didn't have to give up their entire farm system. I will miss Humber and Gomez but Mulvey and Guerra never really did anything for the Mets. Overall, this was a very good trade for the Mets and this was the most the Twins could get at this point. The Red Sox and Yankees were just trying to prevent the other from getting Johan. Johan also wanted to go to New York and he wanted to be a Met. I think the Twins were just happy to get him out of the American League.

I have heard a few people that are still criticizing Omar Minaya. I do not understand why they are doing this right after he got us the best pitcher in baseball right now. The Mets have also been signing the players that filed for arbitration. They have signed Aaron Heilman, Jorge Sosa, and Pedro Feliciano was signed in the middle of all of the Johan talks with the same agent as Johan. Omar has gotten a catcher that has potential to become a leader in the clubhouse and a rightfielder that can help in the long run. Did I mention that Johan Santana is a clubhouse leader and he can speak for the Hispanic/Latino players after what happened last year. Omar Minaya has done everything he can to improve this club.

On a funny note the cover of the Daily News had Johan's head on Feliciano's body. The copy that was at my house also had the #25 on the jersey so it was very obvious about what they had done.

P.S.
As far as the Super Bowl goes I still have no idea who I am rooting for.

A funny quote from an article on MLB.com:

Moises Alou, Ruben Gotay and Carlos Delgado all predicted Giants victories, and then third baseman David Wright went all Plaxico Burress on the scene, saying the G-men would prevail by a score of 27-24.

"I think they're going to put pressure on Brady," Wright said. "Brady likes to stay in the pocket and pick teams apart, and I think (Michael) Strahan and that defensive front's gonna give them some problems."
