"And I want to take you from darkness to light "

When I'm posting this much in one day I have to know a lot of song lyrics.

I forgot to mention this earlier in the week but, Mike Nickeas got a hit and RBI for the Mets earlier this week. The game was at the Cardinals so it wasn't on TV here. I still haven't found any pics but I'll continue to look.

Let's Go Mike!
and Mets!

"I Simply Remember My Favorite Things..."

Wow. I'd say that was pretty depressing. So, I'm looking up random people on Wikipedia and I got Mikey P.'s page. Of course, I think of Joe Smith after that because Mike and Joe go together like peanut butter and jelly, but when I get there I am confused for all of a second and wonder why the info box is red instead of orange. Then I remember he's on the Indians.

I hope to never ever do that again. It hurts too much.
Let's Go Mets!

"You're wise beyond your years, but I don't care"

I found a nice interview of Xavier. I really wish he wasn't a Yankee but I also want him to stay a Yankee for a little while because he has moved around a lot the past few years. If he were to be traded I would want it to be to the Mets for the obvious reasons as well as the fact that it would be another big move for him.

Mike Pelfrey left the game after pitching 1/3 of an inning. He isn't injured, there was just a 90 minute rain delay so he didn't go back in the game. The Mets are losing 6-1 in the top of the 9th.

Baseball is so close!
Let's Go Mets!

"Rain Is Falling Down On The Sidewalk"

The Mets are currently in a rain delay against the Orioles. But, that doesn't really matter because the game isn't on TV. Mike Pelfrey is pitching for the Mets.

Citi Field opens today with the college baseball game going for a test-run. I wish I was there but hopefully I'll get to see a Mets game at some point during the season.

As you should be able to see I went back to the other template. I decided for baseball season I should make it clear that this is a Mets blog. I also just like this template more and I would have changed earlier but I just finally figured out how to keep all of my sidebar widgets and get the cool template.

Just about a week until baseball season!

"Part of where I'm going, is knowing where I'm coming from"

Right now I am majorly obsessed with Gavin DeGraw. But that has nothing to do with anything.

What's really going on is everything is reminding me of baseball. It's hard to believe that in a week I will be sitting here all excited about baseball and watching the first MLB game at Citi Field. I just can't wait!

The Mets won today and John Maine finally kinda looked like himself. YAY!

"And the whole town under water there was nothing we could do"

First, I have a book recommendation. One More River by Lynne Reid Banks is an amazing book. It's about a 14 year old living in Canada in 1966 and she has to move to a kibbutz in Israel. It doesn't sound that interesting but I just read it for an English project and it is truly amazing.

I don't really know what went on with the Mets today (GASP!) but I do know they lost to the Tigers and Poo Poo pitched.

Buuutttt, I have good news! Through the comment section of Surfing the Mets I found out Mike Nickeas is at minor league camp for the Mets. I still have faith and really want him to get a shot in the big leagues with any team.

I start outside practices for softball tomorrow if the weather is good.

"All That Matters Is That You Recognize That It's Just About Respect"

This post is dedicated to Shawn Green and all of the other players that wear #20. That's because we got our uniforms for softball and I have #20. I want #24 or #34 but they were both on some awkward alternate unis so I took #20 over #56.

Some other #20's:
  • Ho Jo!!!!
  • Shawn Green
  • Tommie Agee
  • David Dellucci
  • Rod Barajas
  • Greg Norton
  • Mike Lamb
  • Logan Kensing
  • Brandon McCarthy
  • Matt Joyce
  • YOUUUUUUUUUUUKKKKKKKKK!!!!! (I think you can tell I like this one)
  • Chris Iannetta!
  • Matt Treanor
  • Matt Tolbert
  • Carlos Quentin
  • Jorge Posada
I think that is a pretty strong list.

Let's Go Mets!

"Let's Hold Onto Each Other, Above Everything Else"

I do a lot of thinking during gym class because we are doing bowling so it gets kinda boring. So, today I was thinking about Mike Pelfrey. I'm not really sure why but I was. Then, when I got home I checked the score of the Mets game. They were getting crushed. But, Mikey P. had started the game! I'm not happy he got crushed but I thought it was weird that I was thinking about Mikey P. and then it turned out he was pitching while I was thinking about him.

Freddy Garcia was sent down to minor league camp. That basically hands over the 5th starter's job to Livan. It's too bad I still don't remember any of the puns. As long as he can "eat some innings" then I think he'll be fine. A 5th starter isn't supposed to pitch like Cy Young. But if he did it wouldn't upset me. And maybe Tim Redding will find himself again. I hope so. I was rooting for him to win the job, but his injury killed his chance.

David, JJ, and K-Rod came back to camp but they will all get time off before playing again. David will have some time for his toenail to grow back.

And lastly, SAY NO TO THE STACHE!!!!!

"And I'll do Anything You Ever Dreamed to be Complete"

So, there's only like 2 week until Opening Day. I realized that during gym today and one of my friends was like "you seem genuinely excited about that". And I was just like "duh". I don't think there is anybody in my school more excited about baseball season than I am. I think I might be going to Boston the weekend before Opening Day but that should be okay because the Mets Citi Field exhibition games are against the Red Sox so I'll still be able to watch them.

Just a basic update because I felt like getting off of the b-day posts.

The Mets are back in Spring Training action tomorrow.

"If I Told You That I Loved Like An Ace, Then I'd Be Lying 'Cause I've Made Some Mistakes"

There's another lyric for you.

I found this article about Xavier reuniting with his former Pirates teammates. I'm glad he had a chance to catch up with them after his abrupt ending with them.

Also, in this post, I would like to start my 'Bring Back Pedro' campaign. I know he hasn't really been able to pitch for the past 2 years but I just have a feeling about him. I'm watching the Shea Stadium special on SNY and they showed a quick shot of him playing with his wiffle ball bat in the dugout and I want that fun on the Mets.

And now I'm tearing up from hearing what everybody would take from Shea if they could have anything. I love the fact that Larry even went on to say goodbye to Shea. And David had the last "Goodbye Shea".

Let's Go Mets!

"Mr. A to Z, They Say I'm All About the Wordplay"

I decided from today until Opening Day I am going to name every post with a song lyric. I won't say what song it is from but on Opening Day I'll have a post with a video for every song. (There will be at least 3 birthday posts that don't have lyric titles.) But, I was bored and decided this is what I wanted to do. I can't wait until April 6!

For now we have to live with Spring Training and World Baseball Classic games.

When You're Good, You're Good

Yesterday Mike Pelfrey pitched like he wanted me to start the Cy Young campaign again. He went 6 innings and gave up only 1 run. I am very proud of him and if he continues to progress he will have another very good year. YAY! Mikey P!

As for practice today, I would say I did pretty well. We played a scrimmage and I went 2-for-2 with a home run. I also made an unassisted double play at first base. And then at the end we played kickball and I was picked first for my team. So, I'm in a pretty good mood except for the fact that I have practice at 8 tomorrow morning.

Back to the Mets. Jon Niese was sent to minor league camp today. I'm hoping he gets a chance to pitch at Citi Field at some point this season even though he won't make the opening day roster. Nick Evans, on the other hand, looks like he is going to make the opening day roster. He will most likely go down once the Mets need a 5th starter but something could happen and he could stay up. If he hits the way he has in Spring Training during the limited at bats he will get at the beginning of the season then I definitely think the Mets should consider keeping him up.

David cracked his left big toenail in the Team USA vs. Venezuala game to determine seeding. He was hopping around the entire game. He says he originally thought it was broken. Thank goodness it isn't. Hopefully he will be okay for the rest of the WBC and mostly for the Mets.

That's all for now I guess,

Finally! Sombody Who Listens To Normal Music!

I like reading the Pop Culture Grid on SI.com. This week D-Murph was one of the people on it. I liked his answers and I totally guessed that he wouldn't want to be disturbed while hitting. I also found it funny that he chose Lord of the Rings for one of his answers. But I was happy when I saw what song he said was playing on his iPod was How Far We've Come because it's actually a song I've heard of and most of the time the songs are weird rap stuff that I don't know.

Wow. That Was A Really Pathetic Title

Happy St. Patricks Day!

The Mets lost today against the Braves. But they were in Disney World so they were all distracted by the fun of Disney. I love Disney World. They also wore some pretty hideous hats which you can check out at The 'Ropolitans.

I'm pretty pooped. As far as softball goes, yesterday I sucked but today I was better. I got to work on catching (because I was one of 2 people that volunteered to be a catcher) and 1st base. That was fun. What wasn't fun was going for a grounder in the gym and sliding and messing up my knees. Oh well, they'll get better.

The Mets Rallied To Win The Game

In the news of the irrelevant Spring Training game, the Mets were losing to the Marlins and then they scored like 6 runs in an inning and won. But that's ST so nobody actually cares.

Duaner Sanchez was picked up by the Padres. He will get to join Heath Bell, among others, in their bullpen. I'm kinda afraid he will blow a bunch of games Jake Peavy starts and ruin Jake's self esteem.

My nose still hurts and I'm still sore but I have to move on.

The Mets have the day off tomorrow and Team USA is playing against the Netherlands tonight and whoever loses goes home.

It Just Isn't My Day

I am still incredibly sore but that's not all. Now my nose hurts. I was having a catch with my dad earlier and one of his throws tipped off of my mitt and hit me in the nose. Now I'm completely sore and have a bum nose. *Sigh*

Mike Pelfrey did well today. He pitched 4 scoreless innings. I listened to all of the innings he pitched. The Mets ultimately lost the game. I'm happy Mikey P. did well because he is expected to start the 2nd game of the season. I'm not sure if I'll be able to watch it but I'll definitely DVR the game. I miss regular season baseball.

Team USA is currently losing 4-0 against Puerto Rico in the 2nd inning. And I'm really confused because Davey Johnson isn't supposed to be at this game but they keep showing him in the dugout.

Let's Go Mets!
USA! USA!

I'm Still Sore but Not As Exhausted

I had more practice this morning and I haven't gotten much out of it except that I have to keep my tongue in my mouth. I stick out my tongue when I am concentrating, like David Wright. A few years ago my dad tried to get me to stop but then he saw David sticking his tongue out and said it was okay if I did. But, now I feel awkward at practice sticking my tongue out.

Mike Pelfrey is starting today and it's like the one home game that isn't televised. It sucks. But I'll listen on the radio and picture Mikey P. in my mind. Hopefully he'll do well.

I am definitely going to have a post about Mikey P. up later.

I'm Sore and Exhausted, But I Promised A Post

I had my first day of softball practice today and because there are so few of us I'm playing on JV as a freshman. I didn't play last year for the first time since 1st grade so I haven't been to a team practice in a while. Now I am SO SORE! But I'll stop complaining now and get to the Mets.

Johan said he felt good and I thought he looked good. He let up a homer to Dan Uggla but so did the next guy that pitched. He looked good for where he is at this point. There's still lots of time to prepare for the season.

The Mets beat the Tigers today but Freddy Garcia didn't look like 5th starter material. I wish I could say the job should go to Tim Redding but he has downright sucked. Livan Hernandez is in the lead for the job and Jon Neise is right behind him.

Speaking of the Mets, I'm not sure how much of them I will be able to see early in the season. Softball is pretty much about to take over my life and I only have the March schedule but the practices are all from 6-8. So I won't really be watching the first hour of the games. I'm REALLY disappointed about that but I don't know what will happen with the practices once the games start in April.

Sorry 'bout the complaining. Just tired and that's what's on my mind.

Because Tonight I Will Be Watching Baseball

Sorry about the lack of a post yesterday but I had procrastination issues (that sounds kinda gross) and when I was planning on posting I realized I hadn't done my homework.

Ok, so, well, let's see how many other intro words I can use. But really, ok, (I'm going to start the actual content now) Johan is going make his first Spring Training appearance tonight and I'm going to watch. I don't have any homework so I don't have to worry about the procrastination. I really don't expect Johan to pitch like the pitcher we all know he is. This is his first in-game appearance and he needs time just like anybody else would. I will probably get bored by the 4th inning, or so, and then I will change the channel and think about the days when I know the games mean something. It's called the regular season. It's still like far away but it's not really that far away. The WBC will keep me amused while I am waiting. But, the weird thing is, the WBC is the reason we have to wait so long for the season to start.

In math today I was talking baseball with this boy I always talk baseball with. He's a Yankee fan but it's okay because he is the only one that understands my obsession with baseball. After math I had to go to the nurse to get my card that will let me try-out for softball and I was talking to this other boy and we had a really intense conversation about the intense conversations I have about baseball during math. It was actually kinda funny at the time.

But, back to the real baseball. Jerry Manuel said when the regular season starts Jose Reyes will go back to the leadoff spot in the lineup. Good. He has the ability and potential to become the best leadoff hitter in the game, if you don't already consider him the best. Luis Castillo just doesn't fit in the leadoff spot for this team. I've come to terms with the fact that the Mets are giving him a shot at 2nd base but passed that I don't want him to have a big role on this team. Jose has shown that he is the leadoff man and didn't do anything to lose that position to a player on the tail-end of his career.

Mike Pelfrey felt better yesterday and is on track to make the start on Saturday. After that he would be on track to make the second start of the season. YAY!

I'll try to update tonight on my thoughts about how Johan was, if not I'll have a post up tomorrow.

And I know the picture has nothing to do with the post but it's a cute pic.

Let's Go Mets!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. I think it's pretty distracting when you're trying to do your homework and the Netherlands beats the Dominican Republic and goes to round 2 of the WBC.

ummmmm...
ok.

David Wright = HOT!

I just spent 30 minutes looking at pictures of him and I really can't think about anybody else right now. Whatever I do is going to remind me of him and I'm going to have to look at more pics.

Oh well, I'm good with dat.

DAVID WRIGHT = LIFEEE!

NUMBER 8!

That's the number of the hot dog Cody had on the episode of the Suite Life of Zack and Cody that is on right now.

But really this is #600! For 600 posts!

The Mets finally released Duaner Sanchez today. I've been waiting for this day since he was injured in 2006 and they traded Xavier. Hopefully they will find a lefty to sign so the Mets have more stability in the bullpen. For now, the Mets only have 1 lefty in the bullpen so they need somebody else, especially because the big bats in the Fillies lineup are lefties.

Angel Pagan made the decision to have surgery on his elbow and the recovery time is about 8 weeks. Somebody else will get the 4th outfielders job for now but he could get a chance at the position later in the year.

John Maine gave up five runs today but the good news is that he said he felt better and when he was missing with his pitches he was only missing by a little bit. It's good to hear that he was more comfortable after saying his mechanics were way outta wack in his first start.

The Mets tied the Nats today and are off tomorrow before playing on Thursday night with Johan making his first in-game appearance of the Spring.

Let's Go Mets!

They're Dropping Like Flies

The Mets already have 16 members of camp out because of the World Baseball Classic and now the players that are still in camp can't seem to stay in camp. Mikey P. is out with a lower left leg strain, Angel Pagan went back to NYC for an MRI and Johan hasn't appeared in a game yet. Earlier this week Ryan Church had to miss time after getting a nasty bruise from fouling a ball off of his knee. The Mets have been basically playing all of their minor leaguers because they are the only ones that are available.

In the Mets game against the Nationals there are only 4 position players that have a chance to make the opening day roster.
On the other squad 5 of the players have shots at the big league roster.
There are only 3 starters in the combined line-ups.

David Wright hasn't gotten a hit with team USA but hopefully he'll finally break out of the mini slump tonight.

2:56- I didn't get to finish this post until now because my bio tutor came. Oh well.

I Can't Do Anything With You Tonight Because I Died

That was one of the excuses I was thinking of telling my friend after she called asking me to go to some weird band night thing at my town's teen center. Watching team USA finish the game against Canada was torture. I guess this is the warm-up for Mets fans as well as the players. It was worse realizing that JJ Putz is on the Mets and I am likely to go through this multiple times during the season. The entire game was a back and forth tug-of-war between the teams.

Canada took a fast 1-0 in the top of the first inning but team USA quickly came back to tie the score. In the top of the 2nd inning Joey Votto hit a homer off of Jake Peavy and I started to think wearing my Jake Peavy jersey wasn't worth it. But the USA fought back and in the end they won 6-5. Adam Dunn hit the decisive 2-run home run in the 6th inning. JJ Putz almost gave up the lead in the 9th but only gave up one run and stranded the tying run on 2nd base.

It was weird having the USA as the home team even though the game was in Canada.

I'm just playing mind games:
Well, I realized Bruce Chen is pitching for Panama and in the MLB Bloopers video there is a segment about him wanting his own 'I Live For This' commercial. So, I go "Bruce Chen: I live for this" and Carlos Delgado was batting for Puerto Rico so I go "Carlos Delgado: I can't hit" and then of course he goes and hits a monster home run.

Let's Go Mets!
USA! USA!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Mike Pelfrey is injured! The Mets basically aren't a team during the World Baseball Classic and now they are down a pitcher!

I really don't have anything to say about this besides I hope he gets better quickly. I don't want him to miss any significant time. It could hurt the Mets and my sanity if he does.

To add insult to injury, Jake Peavy didn't do well in 3 innings for team USA and they are losing 2-1 against Canada.

My Slightly Pathetic French Project

I'm not going to post the project because it's a powerpoint presentation and because it's entirely in French. But I think I did a pretty good job for having to find an artifact representing sports in Quebec in 2 nights. I decided to bring in baseball cards of the Expos. I just went through my baseball card binder and took out 9 Expos cards (well, really 7 Expos, 1 Mets Gary Carter, and 1 Dodgers Eric Gagne because he was born in Quebec). Did you know that in French Gagne means "to win". Eric hasn't really done much of that lately.

A-Rod is maybe going to have surgery. (I know I could have used real grammar in that sentence but this is the one place where nobody is grading me on my writing so I'm not going to.) The best thing for Mets fans in the state of New York, living with Yankee fans is for A-Rod to start the season without having surgery but having surgery in the middle of the season after irritating the injury.

The Mets won today with a 9th inning comeback and won 3-2 against Italy. John Maine said he felt uncomfortable with his delivery and felt like he had a different delivery on every pitch.

David Wright hasn't done well in the team USA exhibition games. He's gone hitless in a bunch of at-bats.

Tomorrow the Mets are at the Cardinals so I won't be able to watch on TV after my half-day of school. But I'm probably going out for lunch anyway.

Everybody Freeze!

Manny may not have agreed to a contract with the Dodgers!

The world can continue to exist normally.

Noooo, That's Not What Was Supposed To Happen

Manny agreed to a contract with the Dodgers. It wasn't supposed to happen so fast. I mean, Manny was supposed to have to wait until like August until a team would actually take him. I wanted to see this blow up in his face more than it already did.

Oh well.

I'm Going To Stop Posting Eventually

But first I have to note that the first thing I saw when I turned on the game was David Wright making a really good play and then I saw him laughing with Xavier Nady at third base. It was one of the best moments ever!

Because This Pic Is Too Good Not To Post

I had to...

I Watched The Game But All Of The Numbers Were Messed Up

I watched what I could of the USA game against the Yankees. It was cool watching David play but he had a different number and so did Ryan Braun. David was wearing #4 because Davey Johnson has his usual #5. Ryan Braun was wearing #18 instead of #8 for a reason I'm unsure of.

Jake Peavy is going to wear #22 which is the # he would have preferred to have with the Padres but Xavier Nady had it at the time. LaTroy Hawkins will be wearing #42 which is different considering this is probably the only time he will ever have the chance to wear it. Kevin Youkilis is wearing #20 instead of his usual #21.

The full roster is here.

The USA won 6-4.

USA! USA!

p.s.
In the photo gallery the first pic is of the team pic and David is (W)right in the middle. I love it! I love him!

That Is *Not* Okay

I know you can't force Joe Nathan to play for team USA if he is injured but you could recruit a better replacement. LATROY HAWKINS IS NOT OKAY!!!!! With all of the injuries it's like the USA is throwing this tournament away. I can't believe LaTroy Hawkins was the best they could get.

I appalled.

USA? USA?

YAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a snow day tomorrow so I'm no longer going to sleep now. YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Wanted To Share This

So, a while ago I mention that I had to write a monologue pretending I was Bonnie Baker for my acting class.

Well this is her contemplating how to approach him when she sees him for the first time for 4 years.

Okay. I just have to go in there and tell him straight up. I’m not leaving the game. No. I can’t just do that. I have to set it up. I have to let him talk for a little while and make him feel comfortable. Then I can tell him. Maurice, I’m going to keep playing baseball. There. That should work.

But what if he doesn’t think I should? What if he sees me playing today and decides this isn’t how I should spend my time. What if I’m not enough of a “lady” for him? No. I can’t let this get to me. I just have to go out there and show him that this is what I was always meant to do. Maurice, I want to stay in the game. What more do I have to say? I just have to tell him that I have thought it over and believe this is the best for me.

But I haven’t thought it over. I don’t know that this really is the best for me, the best for us. I never really thought about the future.

What am I doing?! I can’t believe I thought I could just go up to him and say, I’m staying in the game. Just like that. How could I think that would be okay? He’s been away for 4 years and I am supposed to tell him I won’t be home for 8 months of the year. I just can’t do that. He’s going to be standing there. His hands tucked away in his suit pockets, waiting for me with the look. It will say so many things and one of them will definitely be “Has it really been this long since I’ve seen you?” And he’ll shake his head and look as if he wants to say, “I can’t believe this what you have been doing.” And I’ll love every minute of it.

What have I gotten myself into? What am I going to say to him when I see him for the first time in 4 years? He was in the war. I cannot believe I fooled myself into thinking this would all work out perfectly. I made myself believe that I could walk up to him and say, “I’ve missed you so much but now I have to go get on the bus and go to South Bend, we have a game tomorrow afternoon.”

But I have to make this work. I have to tell him at some point. I always knew I would want to keep playing I just never thought today would come. I never realized I would actually have to tell him. He left on such a cold day and I thought the end of his service would never come. He kept telling me he would be home and everything would be normal again. I refused to believe him. I didn’t let myself believe the last words he told me before he boarded that train. “I will be back, and I will always love you no matter what happens.” He was probably thinking about me every minute of everyday while I was thinking about a game more than I was thinking about him. I am not retiring from baseball.

How can I give up the feeling of the wood of the bat hitting the leather of the baseball? Feeling the wind blow by my face. The sting of the smack when the pitch hits my mitt. It’s how I define myself.

But I love him more than anything. Don’t I? Yes! Of course I do. Maybe I should just let my heart take me wherever it goes. Right now… at this very moment… I have a game to play. I have 9 innings to think about nothing but baseball. And then,. When I see him,. I will think about him, and where I want our futures to go.

Johan's Leaving Florida But I'm Not Sure He Will Be Able To Get Back

Tomorrow Johan will have an MRI here in New York. (Well, probably not right here but in this relative area.) But the thing is that there is supposed to be really bad weather here. So, I'm not sure what the travel issues are going to be.

The good news is that he felt good pitching about 35 pitches today at about 80-85%.

The Mets are currently losing 1-0 to the Astros in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Let's Go Mets!
