It Figures

The Mets lost today. And it looked like a loss from last year. The bullpen blew it for Johan and the hitting couldn't get it done. The only thing different is that tomorrow JJ Putz will be in a pretty crappy mood when he sees the headlines on the newspaper.

In completely random stuff:
My first and middle name are in the categories of 'Most Successful' 'Least Lucky' and 'Least Attractive' in this link.
They would be...

My softball team is still winless. Mainly because we don't have any real pitchers. The good news is I'm the starting catcher (maybe that's not good news) and I have batted 4th or 5th for the past few games.

At Least Mike Pelfrey Seems To Be Safe

Jerry Manuel said he will see the starting rotation one more time before making any decisions. But, after today I think his mind should be made up. It will be hard to look worse than Poo Poo did today.

But on a happy note, this song gets me pumped:

The Mets are hosting the struggling Marlins starting tomorrow and hopefully they can take advantage of Florida's slide.

Who Wants A Cookie?

I couldn't think of a title, okay?

The Mets lost today in a close game. They won the series against the Brewers but this loss hurts. They had plenty of runners but couldn't drive them in. At the end of the game the Mets hit into some unlucky double plays and they made the Brewer's bullpen look really good.

Gary Sheffield started again today but I really don't know why. He doesn't have what he used to and Ryan Church and Daniel Murphy deserve the starts more. Fernando Tatis started the game at second base. Luis Castillo pinch hit at one point and bunted unsuccessfully. I understand Luis likes to use his speed, but sometimes he really should just hit the ball. I'm sick of the frustrating outs and close games.

The Mets have tomorrow off to travel to St. Louis. That means this loss will stick with me and frustrate me until I explode. BOOM!

Line Of The Game

I had a good time at the game yesterday but that can't be said for anybody rooting for the Yankees. So, we left early and were listening to the game on the radio when we heard John Sterling say this:

"It's a grand slam! Oh, I'm sorry, Melky caught it and tossed it into the stands"

I took a bunch of pictures of things that interested me. They aren't really of the stadium. Most of them are pics of Grady and Mark DeRosa and other players on the Indians. Sadly, I didn't get to see Joe. =(
(You can click on all of the pics for the full size)

There was hand-operated scoreboards on the walls below the bleachers on both right and left field.
In the top left corner you can see the clock that is one of only 2 clocks I saw on the scoreboard area.
The linescore was on the screen the entire time.
My only glimpse of Xavier. He spent the game in the dugout. I miss him.
Mark DeRosa
Grady Sizemore
They had an electronic scoreboard and clock on the screen.
There was closed captioning for everything being said. It helped because the sound system wasn't too good and it was hard to understand some things that were said.
During lineups the closed captioning would say the players and their number and then make it look like the fans liked all the players.

In the top of the third inning there was a fight and the entire section I was in turned around to watch. The section with the fight was basically emptied by police.

I Wish I Could Come

Joe Smith is back in New York for the Indians series against the Yankees. And tonight he's going out to dinner with Mikey P. and John Maine. I only have one question. Why wasn't I invited? I'm probably the biggest Joe Smith fan out there and I'm probably the only person to own a Mike Pelfrey jersey. Since I won't be there I hope they have a nice night and can catch up on everything that has happened. I wonder if Joe was at Mike's wedding? hmmmm...

In other news that I am too exhausted to comment on:
  • Xavier is most likely out for the season with elbow surgery =(
  • Mike Pelfrey will miss his start on Sunday with forearm tendinitis but seems to be fine to make the start a week from today.
  • Brian Schneider went on the DL but the Mets didn't use the opportunity to call up Mike Nickeas
  • Mike Nickeas is in AA and seems to be working as a mentor for the top catching prospect Josh Thole
  • Mike Nickeas is batting .125 but it's the beginning of the season and I am sure he can do better than that.
  • I'm going to the Indians game today so hopefully Joe will pitch and Grady will play centerfield so I can be happy.

Blah

I know I haven't posted lately. It's because softball and school have taken over my life so basically I have no life anymore.

But this post is here to show you that I'm still here and I'll have more time to catch up over the weekend.

Maybe It's A Sign Of Things To Come

The Pirates did something they haven't done since 1993. No, they didn't make it to the playoffs in the first 6 games of the season. They turned a triple play this afternoon.

With Jesse Chavez on the mound in relief, Brandon Phillips walked and Jay Bruce reached on an infield hit to put runners on first and second to begin the eighth.

With Phillips and Bruce running on the pitch, Edwin Encarnacion lined softly to Jack Wilson at shortstop.

Wilson threw to Freddy Sanchez at second to retire Phillips, and Sanchez threw on to Adam LaRoche to retire Bruce, completing the triple play.

Pirates fans can only hope this means the rest of the year might go somewhat like 1993.

No Bullpen -------> No Defense

Last year Johan Santana had to deal with pitching knowing he wasn't guaranteed the bullpen would hold his win for him. Today Johan had 13 strikeouts and didn't allow any earned runs but still got the loss. His ERA is somewhere around 0.71 but he still has a 1-1 record.

And this brings us to Daniel Murphy. Daniel made the error that lead to the 2 unearned runs that lost the game. It came on a deep fly ball the Murphy would have caught right at the wall, if he made the catch. I know Daniel is new to the outfield but that was an easy catch. Later in the game he made a nice running catch and I wondered how he could catch that after missing the ball in the second inning.

haha. nick swisher and robinson cano just had a ground ball go under both of their gloves. and the official scoring was a hit.

The Marlins have only one loss but should have 2 after today's game. The Mets fought back in the ninth to get one run and make sure they didn't look completely ridiculous. At one point I started to worry about the Mets being no-hit. But luckily it didn't happen. Johan gets the loss in a 2-1 game where he didn't give up any earned runs.

Mikey P. will throw the first regular season pitch in Citi Field tomorrow night.

This Is The Best Book Ever

This morning I finished reading The Comeback Season by Jennifer E. Smith. I can say that this is the best book I have read in a long time. It's about a 15 year old that's just as obsessed with baseball as I am. She's a Cubs fan and of course, there are more obstacles in her life. The summary from the book:

"The last place Ryan Walsh should be this afternoon is on a train heading to Wrigley Field. She should be in class, enduring yet another miserable day of her first year of high school. But for once, Ryan isn't thinking about what she should be doing. She's not worried about her lack of friends, or her suffering math grade, or how it's been five whole years since the last time she was really and truly happy. Because she's finally returning to the place that her father loved, where the two of them spent so many afternoons cheering on their team. And on this -- the fifth anniversary of his death -- it feels like there's nowhere else in the world she should be.Ryan is once again filled with hope as she makes her way to the game. Good luck is often hard to come by at a place like Wrigley Field, but it's on this day that she meets Nick, the new kid from her school, who seems to love the Cubs nearly as much as she does. But Nick carries with him a secret that makes Ryan wonder if anyone can ever really escape their past, or believe in the promise of those reassuring words: "Wait till next year." Is it too much for Ryan to hope that this year, this season, might be her comeback season?"

It's a really good book and you should definitely read it.

Not Really Sure Where This Post Is Going

So, I'm not sure where this post is going to end up but I feel like posting.

For one thing, if I was given the choice of Jake Peavy, Pedro Martinez, or Ben Sheets I would choose Jake Peavy in less than a millisecond. As long as it didn't require trading any of my favorites.

I Have Met Senses

In the past few days I have learned that I have incredible timing, when it comes to baseball and players I like. If one of my siblings wants to check the score of the Yankee game, I'll quickly put the game on. But, I tend to turn to the Yankee game when Xavier is at bat. Also, I put the Mets game on after I showered yesterday afternoon and David had just come to bat. This morning I was watching SportsCenter and looking at the bottom line. It said something about surgery usually taking a year to come back from so I rewind the TV to check who they are talking about. And it's Billy Wagner!

Poo Poo showed up yesterday. The Mets will look to get back on track after their first loss of the season. John Maine(r) takes on Anibal Sanchez at 7:10 PM. The game is on SNY.

Let's Go Mets!

AAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Mets, Frankie Rodriguez. I don't think the ninth inning could have been more eventful without the Reds winning. I don't think there's anything the Mets could do about their bullpen. If you are in the Mets bullpen, you are cursed. But the Mets ended up winning the game so we can move on like this never happened.

OK, so not everybody that was ever in the Mets 'pen is cursed for eternity. Joe Smith pitched a perfect inning for the Indians last night. I miss him, ALOT. But, if he is doing well, and he's happy, I guess its okay. And he's with Grady and Mark DeRosa so it really can't be that bad. But I really miss him.

The Mets play at 12:35 today (Poo Poo is pitching) so I might be able to see the game today. Unless I go out with friends to watch them eat lunch. I figure the first day is too early to break Passover.

Don't Mess With The Pelf

Because he can fight back. Not with his 6ft 7in frame and strength, but with his words. Mikey P. confronted Tom Verducci about being at risk of injury after such an increase in innings. It really is a nice piece by Tom Verducci. He is also really good on MLB Network. The piece is basically a back and forth between Verducci and Mikey P. before Verducci discusses other players that could be at risk. Jon Niese is also on the list, as well as Cole "Choke Artist" Hamels, Tim Lincecum, Jon Lester, and others. But anyways, Mike Pelfrey obviously knew what he was talking about.

Tonight we'll see (well, at least you will, I might not) if Mikey P. can defy Tom Verducci when he pitches against Edinson Volquez and the Reds.

Let's Go Mets!

P.S.
Apparently the first hour of the Mets game on Saturday will be restricted from television. It's because Fox has exclusive TV rights from 4-7 PM and the Mets game starts at 6. The Marlins scheduled the game early because they want time for the Flo Rida concert after the game. Ay yi yi. You spin my head right round right round.

You Really Should Watch

By that, I mean Dancing With the Stars. I'm watching right now and it's really good. It doesn't take that long to get into if you are new to the show and you won't seem weird if you watch it. I mean, if you watch American Idol and tell your friends, they'll give you a look that says "nice, i watched that show before it became mega-weird". But, if you say you watch DWTS, they'll be like "cool! i heard that was a good show". Basically, you should watch. It's almost over tonight but it'll be on again next Monday at 8 PM.

Let's Go Mets!

I Was Thinking...

And I know that isn't always the best thing to do, but for now I think we will all survive.

So, if the Mets really want to be a winning team again, they should make everything the way it was in 2006. I don't mean getting all of the same players, because there is no way they would have the same kind of season they had before. But, if SNY went back with the TV head and the Procede commercials things might change.http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/watchdog/blog/SNY-Head.jpg Obviously that stuff worked for the Mets, shown by their success in 2006. SNY also had Chris Cotter instead of Kevin but they could have them work together because I like both of them. They would also go back to call the postgame show, "Nissan Post Game Live". The pregame show would be "North Fork Bank Pregame Live". I also remember Cliff Floyd commercials reminding people to get their kidneys checked. It would be cool if SNY had a day or two or three where they went back to all of the original stuff.

Obviously, I'm very bored on Mets off days.

Baseball Is Back!

What more is there to say? The Mets got right down to business with a 2-1 win over the Reds today. And they didn't have to win in their final at-bat. The bullpen showed we can have some faith in them, even if it is minimal. I'm not going to freak out because the Mets left a bunch of runners in scoring position. It's the first day of baseball really being back and it feels great. Daniel Murphy got right to work, hitting the Mets first homer of the season. Ryan Church made the catch of the season (so far, LOL) and David Wright showed why he has won the past 2 Gold Glove awards. Johan had the bullpen behind him and therefore he actually got the win. It was all there.

As far as the other teams I have a rooting interest in... The Indians got beat up by the Rangers. For me, this game is a wash. I would have like it if Cliff Lee had pitched better but Grady did okay and Joe didn't pitch. Ian had a nice day for the Rangers and Josh caught the first pitch from George W. Bush... John Grabow (he's Jewish) got the save for the Pirates. They're over .500 so things are looking good... The Red Sox were postponed, as well as the Royals and White Sox... And the guy who has the show on WFAN right now thinks Grady will win the MVP. I think it's Adam the Bull. YAY!

The Mets have tomorrow off before Mikey P. pitches on Wednesday night. I'll be watching as much as possible during the seder and first night of Passover. I don't want to miss Mikey P!

There's One More Song

"You Say That We've Got Nothing In Common"

At this point the posts are mostly to get certain songs in the post tomorrow.

The Mets gave Nick Evans' roster spot to Gary Sheffield. That sucks. They don't need Gary Sheffield but has an attachment to old, over-the-hill players. He should talk to somebody about that. I was rooting for Nick. He seems like a good kid (I'm calling him a kid when I'm 15) and I felt bad when D-Murph stole his thunder last year. I wanted him to get a chance. Hopefully the Mets will bring him up at some point before September.

But now the Mets have to figure out how to make room for Livan when he has to pitch the 5th game of the season. Personally, I think the Mets should come to their senses and just release Gary so they don't have this issue. But, the Mets won't do that so they should do something with Marlon Anderson. I don't want to see Marlon leave but I don't see how he could really help the team. If he was ready to stop playing it would be cool if the Mets could give him some sort of coaching job. But I doubt he wants to stop play.

Hopefully the weather in Cincy holds up for tomorrow.
Let's Go Mets!

"You stopped me where I stood"

Actually, if it takes much longer for baseball season to start I think I might explode. So, tomorrow is the day of the big music post. It's also the day the Mets start to play meaningful games. But, for tonight, I'm taking a walk with my mom while trying not to think about the Fillies playing against the Braves.

And Mike Nickeas is going to start the season at AA. I'm still rooting for him!

I'm so excited for tomorrow I can barely type. See you in the morning after I make haroset at my Grandma's house.

"Tell Me Do You Feel The Way I Feel, Cause Nothing Else Is Real"

9:12 PM- The game is going to get back underway with just about every bench player available coming into the game.

The Mets game is currently in a rain delay and I doubt it will start again.

Jacoby was the first Major League batter in Citi Field. I like that. But it was weird seeing a different backdrop and still having the Mets be the home team. Citi Field is going to take some getting used to. It was all so different tonight. The game was a home game but it felt weird. It wasn't the familiarity of Shea. On fly balls Gary wasn't sure of how far it was going to go and if the outfielder was going to make the catch. There were a couple of fly outs where Gary sounded confident were going to leave the park but instead they were caught or hit off the wall. It just didn't feel like a home game for the Mets.

I turned on the Yankee game less than a minute ago and Xavier leads off with a single. I'd say I have some pretty nice timing.

I'll be in Boston tomorrow.
Let's Go Mets!

"I Don't Mean To Be So Strange But My Life Just Took A Change"

If you're wondering why I haven't commented about the Gary Sheffield signing yet, it's because I hate the signing and I'm trying to pretend it didn't really happen.

What the Mets really need is a teenage girl to come to every game and encourage the players. Of course, if the Mets actually had a job like that I wouldn't get it and then I'd be jealous of whoever got the job and then I would wish the job never existed.

And for a sign that baseball really has come, the Mets have put up the schedule and pitching match-up on their website. It's just so close!

"I Won't Let You Down If Your Luck Runs Out"

I'm really posting this because I want an excuse to use the song the lyric is from.

I guess I'll use this for a reminder.
I'm leaving to go to Boston on Saturday morning. I'll make sure to have a post about the game up at some point and I may even try blogging from my phone (don't count on it. it's probably too adventurous). But I won't be in Boston for long so nothing much should change.

Let's Go Mets!

"Truth Be Told I Miss You"

To be totally honest I don't know why I am posting right now. The Mets won today but Mikey P. got roughed up. Not like it matters, though. Tomorrow the semi-real baseball starts. Meaning, I will actually be somewhat excited for this game. Actually, I am majorly excited for tomorrow's game.

If you don't know what I am talking about, the Mets are playing their first game at Citi Field tomorrow. It's only an exhibition game but that kinda means nothing to me. So, that was for everybody who has been living under a rock for like the last forever.

I had a pretty good practice today, mainly because I wasn't catching for 2 hours straight. I am kinda hoping for rain tomorrow afternoon because I want practice to be canceled. Hopefully that rain would stop before the Mets game is supposed to start.

"I Could Stay Awake Just To Hear You Breathing"

I am majorly conflicted about this. So, I have had a blog on the MLBlogs site for a while and it has never gotten much attention. But I changed one thing and it showed up on the list of recently updated blogs and people started visiting and commenting on a post from November. I said I would copy and paste the posts from this blog to that blog because I am still in love with my home here. I want there to be something extra here because it is my first home and I don't think I will ever feel the same way about my other blog.

If anybody has any suggestions for something that could help, leave a comment HERE!

"Somewhere we went wrong, we were once so strong"

I have gotten one thing out of all of these softball practices. To be a catcher you have to be mentally insane. I had practice today and I was working on catching for 2 hours straight. And it was raining! So, basically, I won't be able to move tomorrow.

The Mets won today but nothing from Spring Training really matters anymore. I'm ready for the real stuff.

Let's Go Mets!
